Tamir’s Story
Tamir Rice was born on June 25, 2002 in Cleveland, Ohio, the youngest of four children. Tamir was loved by his brothers and sisters dearly, and his community. Tamir had a smile that would brighten any room. Tamir also loved the arts and crafts he love drawing and painting too. The process of creative self-expression brought him joy.Tamir had a bright future with the love of all sports he could achieve anything. Also a big fan of the drums where he practiced making beats This was a way he created his joy.
In 2014, 12- year-old Tamir Rice was murdered at the hands of Cleveland Police officers. Tamir’s murdered shock the Nation to the core. There’s was many protests across the nation an many out cries from the nation for true Justice.
Tamir’s memory and service of his legacy, his mother, Ms. Samaria Rice, founded the Tamir Rice Foundation in 2016. Under Ms. Rice’s leadership, the foundation advocates for youth and families, with its core initiative — The Tamir Rice Afro-cultural Center — serving as an enriching space to keep children safe from unjust harm.

It is also to create a safe and nurturing environment where children can be themselves, while developing self-awareness and growing organically through the arts and cultural activities.

Rice

As a mother, political advocate, and the founder and CEO of the Tamir Rice Foundation, Ms. Samaria Rice proudly serves as an advocate for juvenile rights in Cleveland, Ohio. Since the murder of her 12-year-old son Tamir by Cleveland Police in 2014, Ms. Rice has committed her life to being on the frontlines for change.
Samaria’s passion for civil rights reaches across lines of difference, uniting us all to work towards change. Following Tamir’s death, Samaria has used her voice in the service of her son’s legacy.
Samaria encourages us to take back our communities by standing up for justice, her voice resonating with many mothers and children in our community. She has become a motivating force for families and communities across the nation.
Samaria Rice also is apart of Citizens For Safer Cleveland, where she advocates for police reform, which has helped create civilian oversite for the city of Cleveland.
